This last week the BBC highlighted the story of Shaun Pinner, a former soldier of the British Army who joined the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a contracted fighter in 2018 and fought during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Tortured and sentenced to death, Shaun described how friendship and community kept him going. Now free after a prisoner exchange, he celebrated the vital power of community.
