The first gospel act that appeared on Saturdays (January 16) show was gospel duo Jordan and Wesley - two brothers from Coventry who sang the Mary Mary classic Go Get It. They impressed the coaches and after Olly Murs and Anne-Maries chairs turned, Jordan and Wesley decided to join Team Olly.
Wura Abimbola was the second gospel artist to impress the judges on the show. Her song choice was Strange by Celeste - the South-East London based singers performance turned Tom Jones chair and she won a spot on his team.
Past contestants on The Voice UK that have been influenced by gospel music include Zion, Emmanuel Smith, Michelle John and Jason Nicholson-Porter. Blessing Chitapa was part of last years show and she was the first UK based gospel artist to win the competition.
Speaking to Premier Gospels Muyiwa, Blessing said that she was grateful to God for how far he has brought her and also described what it was like bringing her faith to the show.
I think prior to each performance I literally in my head Im like remember who youre doing this for and what youre doing this for. And to be on a platform like that I feel like a lot of people can know Christ through me, through the way that I am and through my kind of personality. And so, Id always remember to myself and say to myself youre doing this for God.
