Amongst those who left was the former health secretary Sajid Javid, who delivered a powerful personal statement to the former prime minister to which he quoted Reverend Les Isaac OBEs speech the day before at the Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast. The reverends speech will forever go down in political history as one that influenced the minds of many in parliament.

Reverend Isaac joined Muyiwa to discuss that influential and impactful sermon that served as a huge catalyst for what has unfolded. Speaking on the contents of his sermon reverend Isaac said: I think for me its that wonderful scripture in Ephesians that speaks about let this mind that was in Christ be in you also and the facts of the text if what God humbled himself and came in to this world, identified with us, touched us, and felt out pain but not only that, He was willing to die. 

That took two things for me, one a servant heart and were all called to serve, whether were politicians or community leader or church leaders, were called to serve others. The second thing was He humbled Himself. God showed that with all His power and might He was willing to empty Himself of allThats a great lesson for us all.

Muyiwa asked whether reverend Isaac was speaking directly to the former prime minster when making his speech, to which he went on to say: I think my message was for everyone in the room. My prayers before and during was that God speak to our hearts. 

The former prime minister and I were talking, he received the message and shortly after he had to go. My hope was that he was listening. My message wasnt directly to Mr Johnson but I would hope that Mr Johnson wouldve picked that word up and applied it to his life and calling.

In the interview the reverend spoke of some songs which influenced his speech at the Parliamentary Breakfast just short time before Johnsons resignation, sharing: when Im preparing sermons or praying as it were I have a hymn book and theres songs and hymns that really resonate with me. One of them is Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven. We need to recognise we are in the midst of the king, the great king, the eternal king, the almighty king. I remember there was a question posed once to Billy Graham which was Mr Graham, whats it like speaking in the presence of royalties? and his reply was I do that everyday.

For me, that hymn, the fact that I knew where I was but the greatest God and king was in that room - and that was Jesus. Those are the things that resonate as I prepare.
