In the last four years racial tensions in America have been stoked and the divide between the christian and gospel community widened. Healing and reconciliation are needed and inauguration day marked the start of that process. Feeling optimistic about the future, Kierra Sheard commented on social media saying: Today was a breath of fresh air. I declare that breakthrough, change and healing is on the way
To the chagrin of the evangelicals, the gospel community has thrown its weight behind the Biden/Harris camp, flooding social media with goodwill messages and throwing jibes at the outgoing president. Jonathan Nelsons Island Medley (So Long Bye Bye) is the unofficial #Trumpisover praise party anthem, and I doubt therell be any gripes from him as this will likely translate to increased YouTube views and Spotify spins. Jonathan McReynolds disabled comments on his Instagram page after his veiled dig at the Trump administration, posting I declined the last inauguration I was invited to in 2016, honoured to perform tonight for the new administration.
Arguably the biggest success story of the new administration is Kamala Harris. Shattering the glass ceiling to become the first female Vice President, she is also the first black and first Indian Vice President of the United States of America. Gospel singer Erica Campbell added her voice to the #BETCELEBRATESHER campaign saying: ... We know the role is not easy, it will be challenging but we know you are equipped and prepared. We are praying for you and rooting for you and wishing you all the best...
The healing power of music is undeniable and as Tasha Cobbs, Tye Tribbett, Fred Hammond and Jonathan McReynolds join with other gospel artists and celebrities for The 2021 Inaugural Gospel Celebration, our prayer is that seeds of love, hope and unity are sown.

America and the world at large heaved a sigh of relief on inauguration day when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were peacefully sworn in as president and vice president of the United States of America. The lead up to the big day had been quite chaotic following the 6th of January Capitol Hill insurrection. Despite Biden winning the election, confident Trump evangelical supporters believed that God would install him as president.
