It was a day filled with both grief and celebration as friends, family and community members gathered to remember the life of Elianne Andam. The 15-year-old tragically lost her life in an incident that shook the nation, but the memorial service held at New Life Croydon served as a poignant reminder of the joy and light she brought into the world.

The service, beautifully led by Pastor Mark Rossell, offered a space for attendees to mourn Elianne's untimely passing while also celebrating her vibrant spirit. The church was filled with an air of solemnity but also a profound sense of love and unity, reflecting Elianne's impact on those around her.

One could feel the palpable emotion in the room as Elianne's coffin arrived, accompanied by soft lullabies from Hillsong. Pastor Mark opened the service with a heartfelt welcome and prayer, setting the tone for a day of remembrance centred around faith and community.

The eulogy, read by Aunty Sylvia, painted a touching portrait of Elianne — a young girl full of life and potential. The congregation listened quietly, many nodding in agreement as they remembered their own experiences with Elianne.

One of the highlights of the service was Premier Gospel Station Director Muyiwa Olarewaju OBE musical tribute. His renditions of 'Safe in His Hands' and 'My Worship' resonated deeply with attendees, providing comfort through music — a universal language of healing.

Various tributes poured in from different corners of Elianne's world: her school — Old Palace School; her family; and even her community. Each tribute was a testament to how deeply she had touched lives in her short time on earth.

The service also included a video tribute featuring Elianne singing — a poignant reminder of her love for music. Her parents gave moving testimonies, with her mother reading a touching poem from her seat, leaving hardly a dry eye in the room.

In the congregation were London Mayor Sadiq Khan and a long list of dignitaries, politicians and award winning rapper Stormzy who also performed his song Holy Spirit later in the day.

As the service drew to a close with a worship medley and a vote of thanks from Elianne's family, attendees left with heavy hearts but also with the comfort of shared mourning and remembrance.

As we remember Elianne, we're reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment. Her memory and love for gospel music will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and through initiatives aimed at ensuring such a tragedy doesn't befall another family. Her life, though short, leaves an indelible mark on her community and beyond.
