Upon its release, Donda also occupied 92% of the Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel songs charts. The rapper controlled 23 of the 25 spots on both charts.
Kanyes success across both charts has stirred up debate within the Gospel and Christian music world.
Some artists have questioned why Kanyes album has been so successful in the religious music world while others are focused on the potential impact it can have on the kingdom of God.
Aint no use in being mad, Ill tell you what, why dont you look at it like this God has just put right in your lap right in your hand a brand new audience to go and reach, Fred Hammond said on Instagram.
Fred went on to challenge his followers and said they should get into the presence of God and find out what they should make.
Darwin Hobbs was also trying to figure out why people were taken aback by Kanyes success on the chart.
Another point that Darwin raised was whether people are genuinely supporting gospel music when its released.
Darwin wrote: Such a hot topic! What are your thoughts? I mean bottomline... he outsold the others! I'm trying to figure out why everyone is taken aback by this.
Are we sayin @billboard is flaky? I think it's a no brainer... he's Uber popular... and some of the gospel artists everyone is wondering about aren't selling a fraction of what he did!
Which should provoke another conversation... ARE YOU SUPPORTING GOSPEL MUSIC WHEN IT'S RELEASED??? Just do that.. so that the gospel genre can have whatever level of success it capable of having.
Darwin made another post on social media and described himself as an OG of gospel music and mentioned that when he started out other artists had individuality.
He added that with current gospel music everything sounds the same and that the solution is bringing back creativity.
